Canada-based Moga youth’s Guinness record now part of pvt course in US

Before accomplishing three Guinness World records—spinning a basketball on a toothbrush in his mouth and spinning three basketballs on his fingers—29-year-old Sandeep Singh Kaila, based in Canada, would often engage in shooting volleyball competitions or assist on his father’s farm in their village of Baduwal in Moga district.

Sandeep’s remarkable feat of securing four Guinness World records has now earned recognition in the American Online Achieve 3000 program, a private course offered to students in public and private schools in the US. His achievements, along with details of his practice regimen, are featured in the worksheets within the chapter on Guinness records in the course.

Growing up in Punjab, Sandeep split his time playing shooting volleyball in his village and assisting on his father Mukhtiar Singh’s farm. In 2017, he made his first attempt at the Guinness world record of balancing a basketball with a toothbrush in his mouth, breaking the previous record of 46.16 seconds with a new time of 53 seconds. Encouraged by this success, he relocated to Canada and went on to establish three more records.

Sandeep, now working as a process assistant with Amazon, also set the Guinness world record for spinning three basketballs together, accomplishing a time of 20.98 seconds on March 20, 2019, surpassing the previous record of 17.80 seconds held by Diego Soto of Mexico.

Reflecting on his journey, Sandeep shared, “While I started balancing volleyball as a 12-year-old during volleyball competitions for my school and college, balancing basketball posed a different challenge. It takes time to adjust, especially since one needs to use a specified and approved basketball by FIBA, the world governing body. The key is to observe the movement of the ball and air, and that comes with practice.”

Sandeep, aiming for more records, is awaiting approval for two additional records of spinning three basketballs this year. He also has plans to attempt records in new categories, such as spinning five basketballs, in the coming months. Despite recognizing that this is not a fully professional sport, Sandeep views these records as a source of motivation and an avenue to follow his passion while inspiring the youth.
